The letter to the nice Mr Murtagh had to be sent
via Mr Frank Gearty, solicitor for the Local Authority. Time to write again.
Your Reference: GAB 05042
Mr Gearty,
I thank you for receiving me in the recent past
to consider side issues that might have a bearing on the Center Parcs project.
I did make you aware that this intervention was meant to be supportive of the
project in every way possible. There is nobody more eager to see this
development proceed than myself.
I outlined my reservations on the situation in
regard to the old tip head at Ballymulvey and how this issue might adversely
impact on the project if the possible implications were to appear in the public
domain. I also mentioned to you that any reference to non-compliance with
Circuit Court Orders by the Local Authority in over two decades might reflect
very poorly on the Heads of Service up to the very top. I am aware that you
treated my concerns seriously and forwarded details of this matter to the
Acting County Manager.
It appears that the Acting Manager referred the
subject to a Mr Murtagh, Senior Engineer with the Authority. Consequent on this
I received your correspondence which included Mr Murtagh’s statement of
response to the issues raised. I have since become aware that the Chief
Planning officer knows nothing of this matter which fact astounds me.
Seldom have I received from an employee of a
public body such an empty and erroneous response to an honest and well
intentioned submission concerning issues of public health and safety. I am left wondering whether Mr Murtagh is a
fool or considers me to be one.
Despite the fact that I am an employee of
Coillte, my first allegiance is to County Longford and its people. Would that the same could be said of Mr
Murtagh whose primary focus appears to be to cover his executive rear. Please
supply the following reply to Mr Murtagh with a copy to the Acting Manager who decided
in her wisdom that Mr Murtagh was the right person to consider and respond to
the issues I have raised.
Kindest regards,
Patrick J Walsh.
